As I think about it my story of how I came to know God isn’t necessarily spectacular in the way it came about. But I will never fully understand how miraculous it is.
I grew up in somewhat of a Christian home. We went to a de- nominational church where God and the Bible were talked about but in those years I never understood that any of it had anything to do with me. I don’t remember that any of it was directed to me personally.
Neither do I know how it happened that my older brother went to Philadelphia College of the Bible (now Carin University). It was in his sophomore year during Christmas break that he talked to me about Heaven and how I could know that some day I would go there. He had a little booklet that he read from and also read verses from the Bible. 1 John 5:13 is a verse I always have remembered him explaining to me. He also explained to me a prayer that I could pray and ask Jesus to come into my heart. Even though I was only nine years old I look back on this as being the time of my new spiritual birth.
I wish I could say that from that time on I lived my life having a close relationship with God and serving him. The opposite has often been true. I went through most of my school years and young adult years not showing evidence of my Christianity. I understand how people can notice hypocrisy in those who say they are Christians since I could have contributed to that reputation.
In later years having grown in my faith and my relationship with God I now welcome opportunities to share what happened to me with others.
